Buck McIntire, a Diesel supervisor for GP&L, was captured in 1975 beside a 4-cylinder generating unit in the “old” electric plant on Avenue A. During Depression years he was glad to have 12 hours’ work for 7 days each week. Besides monitoring and repairing electric units like this one, his initial roles included fire truck mechanic and city jailer. McIntire retired from GP&L in 1976, after 44 years of service.
