LaVerne Knight

LaVerne Knight may be explaining to her friend Morene Wood why she chose this 1933 model Chevrolet over a comparable Ford as her prize in the December 1932 Christmas raffle.  The winner was offered either car, and Wood’s father held Garland’s Ford franchise.  Knight’s father owned Joe Knight’s Grocery on the square’s north side.  Her mother operated the city’s telephone switchboard before installation of Garland’s direct dial system.
