The
Garland Landmark Society was established in 1972 for the purpose of
collecting, preserving and exhibiting elements of Garland
history for
the education and enlightenment of its citizens and visitors.
Our volunteer group operates Landmark Museum in Heritage Park at State
Street and Museum Plaza Dr. in old downtown Garland. The Museum is housed
in the vintage 1901 Santa Fe depot, owned and maintained by the City of
Garland; the historical artifacts and documents within, representing
the period from 1850 to the present, are owned and cared for by the
Landmark Society.
Adjacent to the depot are a 1910 wooden-bodied Pullman rail car and the
late 19th-century Lyles House, both of which the Society hopes to restore as
resources permit. Neighboring the Lyles house is a second historic
building , the restored Pace House (1895), which the city offers on a
rental basis for private functions.
The Society's ongoing programs of research and interpretation are aimed
at instilling pride and appreciation of the community's past, and it
welcomes the participation and support of all who share those goals.
