N. P. ‘Newt’ Morrison, shown ca. 1920 in his private law office above the State National Bank, drew only one opponent in more than 27 years as Justice of the.Peace for Pct. 3. When he failed to file for reelection, the judge was returned anyway by write-in votes. Morrison finally resigned as J. P. in 1951 to become Garland’s first municipal court judge.
